I won't be eating turkey, but I will be trotting for a great cause!
As many of you know, the homeless population is a community I feel strongly about helping.
This season, I am going to participate in Father Joe's Villages 16th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K. In San Diego we have the 4th largest homeless population in the country. There is not anywhere for them to go because we also have the lowest rental vacancy rates in the country. On this holiday where we celebrate what we are thankful for in our own lives, I ask that you join in supporting those who do not have as much.
The proceeds of this 5K will help Father Joe's Villages provide and serve close to #1MillionMeals in 2018 to our homeless neighbors in need. On Thanksgiving morning, I'll be doing this turkey trot with over 7,000 others in hopes to help all of our neigbors shine.
Father Joe's Villages helps provide hope, medical treatment, therapeutic childcare, employment education and training, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and housing to those in need.
As an alterantive to donation, I encourage you to smile and hello if you see someone who might be in need of a little humanity. As simple as it sounds, a smile goes a long way!
